Sacred Art

Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral is gracefully adorned with beautiful sacred art installations throughout the sanctuary, the nave and the narthex. The altar and sanctuary are accented with the four gilt plaques of the Gospel Evangelists, Sts. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, depicted symbolically here with each of their associated creatures as described in the Book of Revelation 4: 6-8. Each Gospel writer is attributed to one of these creatures based on the emphasis given in the respective Gospel to Jesus Christ.

In addition, images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Divine Mercy can be venerated at each end of the loggias on the respective feast days. In the Narthex, the Coats of Arms of each of the Bishops of Raleigh adorn the upper gallery. Just outside the main doors is the cornerstone, blessed by Pope Francis, which has inspired the logo and motto for the Cathedral, “In His Service”.
