Architectural Features

The Architecture of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral demonstrates principles of design that convey the  sanctity of the Catholic rites, helping us build our spiritual relationship with God, our sense of community with our fellow Christians, and the feeling of sacredness in our worship space.

It is designed in a cruciform, or cross, shape, following a traditional practice of associating the floorplan of church buildings with the Body of Christ on the Cross. In this light, the heart of Our Lord may be signified at the crossing, where His love is poured out for us on the altar, vertical proportion, such as arches and vaults, helps us to lift our eyes and hearts heavenward and create a sense of transcendence.

Explore in detail these features in the following categories  and sub-pages, noting with gratitude the generosity of the donors who so lovingly honored our Lord with thier memorializations.
