Cathedral Map Home Architectural Features

Reredos

A reredos is a large altarpiece, screen, or decoration placed behind the altar in a church. Within Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, the reredos is represented by the tiered gallery of arched niches and supporting columns of the back wall behind the tabernacle. The upper colonnade is further enhanced by decorative lamps which echo the shape of the dome and the baldacchino which lie above and before the reredos.
