Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral is designed in a cruciform, or cross, shape, following a traditional practice of associating the floorplan of church buildings with the Body of Christ of the Cross. In this light, the heart of Our Lord may be dignified at the crossing, where His love is poured out for us on the altar of sacrifice. Christ then speaks to all those gathered in the Assembly from the Cathedra, the chair of the Diocesan Bishop, from where he Shepherds us along the ways of Life everlasting. The Body of Christ is then represented by the Assembly gathered in the nave and each transept, strengthened in the cross, as we sit within it and are formed by the mystery of its many graces.
