The Cornerstone of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral was blessed by Pope Francis during a general audience in Saint Peter's Square at the Vatican on December 9, 2015.
Bishop Michael F. Burbidge made a request through the Papal Household, and carried the stone to the Vatican on behalf of the people of the Diocese of Raleigh who prayed, sacrificed and worked to make the Cathedral a reality.
The stone, which is about 10 x13 inches, is made from a material called santa fiora, which hails from Tuscany, Italy.
