The nave refers to this main body of the church whose main purpose is to provide the congregation space to gather and to worship. Traditionally, it stretches from the westward entrance in the narthex to the eastern end of the rows of pews just before the sanctuary, where it intersects with the transepts just as it does here in in the cruciform architecture of Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral.
