The Stations of the Cross at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral once belonged to Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Philadelphia, which was constructed in 1924 and closed in 2012. The Diocese of Raleigh acquired the stations in 2013. At the time of acquisition, the stations were in relatively good condition and required little restoration. The multi-colored stations are three feet wide by slightly more than five feet high and are painted on a fold field. They are unique in their depiction of the Passion and Death of Jesus.

XII. Jesus Speaks to His Mother and the Disciple

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. (John 19:25-27)

Lord, grant us constancy that we may be willing to stand by those in need. Lord Jesus, help us walk in your steps.
