The Diocese of Raleigh acquired these stations in 2013 from Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Philadelphia. The stations are approximately 80 years old and stand more than five feet high with rounded tops and approximately three feet wide with multi-colored depictions painted on a gold field. At the time of acquisition, they were in relatively good condition and luckily little restoration. They are unique in their portrayal of the passion and death of Jesus and can be located throughout the north and south loggias.
VIII. Jesus meets the Women of JerusalemWe adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. Because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world. They pressed into service a passer-by, Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross. Mark 15:21 Lord, grant us willing spirits that we may be your instruments on earth. Lord Jesus, help us walk in your steps. DonorMr. George L. Gentzler, Jr., and Mrs. Mary E. Conlon |
